Incarcerated youth: Partnering for student success

The Issaquah Faculty District and the Washington Division of Youngsters, Youth, and Households associate to help pupil success at Echo Glen Faculty.

We’re writing in response to your latest opinion: “The way Washington schools kids in lockup is criminal” [May 9, Opinion].

We admire your highlight on challenges which have been left unresolved for too lengthy. We agree that it’s vital that we see extra urgency with regard to the wants of children within the juvenile authorized system.

We share your disappointment that funding and coverage change have been pushed again repeatedly and over years. Providing packages and providers that meet our college students’ wants requires extra assets, not fewer.

That stated, we wish to make clear information for readers about supply of schooling at Echo Glen:

• At present, Echo Glen serves 82 college students.

• College students transition between six courses every day; instruction doesn’t have college students parked in entrance of pc screens all day.

• Up to now yr, 19 college students graduated or earned their GED.

• College students can enroll in Renton Technical School for abilities improvement and academic re-engagement.
