Re: “Seattle Pride Parade bans uniformed police from marching, again” [June 16, Local News]:
It is vitally disappointing to learn that the organizers of the Seattle Delight Parade have determined to disregard LGBTQ+ Seattle Police Division officers once more this 12 months.
Thirty years in the past, the homosexual neighborhood labored intently with SPD to push for extra homosexual and lesbian officers. At the moment, members of a number of homosexual organizations met with police representatives to extend LGBTQ+ illustration on the pressure. That effort paid off with better cooperation between police and LGBTQ+ enterprise homeowners, bar patrons and atypical members of the queer neighborhood simply strolling down the road. Now we’ve got the other dynamic with the board of administrators of the parade. It appears that evidently its members don’t need to acknowledge their LGBTQ+ compatriots among the many police.
The article states there shall be uniformed Seattle cops on the parade for security causes, as required by a metropolis allow. I believe that “sidelining” our queer brothers, sisters, nonbinary and trans officers makes me much less proud and rather less secure.
