Cuvier’s beaked whale seen grieving dead calf for first time

A feminine Cuvier’s beaked whale has been noticed swimming round her useless calf, touching her head in opposition to his and making an attempt to raise his physique in an obvious present of grief. That is the primary time such grieving behaviour has been documented in a beaked whale.

The pair was noticed by a tour group on board a whale-watching boat 21 kilometres off the coast of Bermeo within the Bay of Biscay within the north of Spain.
