A late burst of bowling from Mitchel Mavunga overshadowed an impressive century by Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, main Northerns Girls to a 22-run win over Southerns Girls in a regional one-day match.
Chasing 218, Southerns seemed to be nicely set, whilst Mugeri Tiripano fell on a run-a-ball 110. The rating was 189 for the lack of 4 wickets with over 17 overs to go.
Six wickets fell for simply six runs, with Mavunga accounting for 3 and her fellow teenage star Kelis Ndhlovu the opposite two.
Earlier, Tasmeen Granger hit an unbeaten half-century for her aspect after they had been put in. She constructed on earlier efforts by captain Mary Anne Musonda (46) and Chiedza Dhururu (34).
Granger placed on a 90-run partnership with Nomatter Mutasa Ziyambi who made 33.
The second match is on Wednesday, with the third scheduled for Friday.
