Democrat Senator Bob Menendez Charged With Conspiracy To Act As A Foreign Agent For Egypt

Prosecutors have accused New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez and his spouse of conspiring to have the senator act as a international agent of Egypt.

In a superseding indictment filed Thursday in opposition to Menendez, who was chairman of the Senate International Relations Committee on the time of the allegations, prosecutors mentioned the senator took bribes from Egyptian officers and intelligence brokers who wished to make use of his energy within the Senate.

A superseding indictment means federal prosecutors have rewritten their indictment.

In September, prosecutors charged Menendez and his wife with federal bribery offenses in reference to a “corrupt relationship” with three New Jersey businessmen.

That three-count indictment says Menendez and his spouse, Nadine, obtained “lots of of 1000’s of {dollars}” in bribes starting in 2018 in trade for utilizing the senator’s affect to counterpoint the businessmen, one among whom has ties to the Egyptian authorities. The bribes have been within the type of a luxurious automotive, gold bars and money.

Each Menendez and his spouse have pleaded not responsible to the fees.

There have been calls for Menendez to step down, together with from Democrats; he has thus far refused. Republicans in his home state have sought to have his pension stripped away.
