Lobby Purple have launched two new tracks, ‘Tallest Dogwood’ and ‘Barkin’ Up a Knot’, forward of a run of December exhibits with Speedy Ortiz. Take a hear under.
Lobby Purple launched Yarn the Hours Away, their debut LP, earlier this 12 months. “This music is an outtake from Yarn the Hours Away,” the band’s Elana Riordan explains. “Our album artwork really has a drawing of ‘milk on a spoon’ from a lyric within the music. The lyrics are an ode to my childhood residence and numerous the reminiscences that stand proud of rising up there, like, my brother swallowing a penny, my dad taking part in guitar on the porch throughout thunderstorms, and so forth. My dad planted a dogwood tree there for every of his youngsters and mine grew the tallest.”
“This music is a particular one from the Lobby Purple vault,” Riordan added. “We self-recorded it at residence. Mitch performs banjo within the music and drums with brushes, a really totally different sound for us. The lyrics are loosely based mostly on Greek mythology; it’s Persephone’s monologue to Hades, who has stored her within the Underworld. I initially wrote the lyrics as a B-side to “Pickles,” which is about stress, combustion, dryness, rust. This music juxtaposes that with cool water, cerulean, development, and starlight.”
